Getting to Know Sally May
Is she the Wellness Whisperer?

Ever met someone who truly inspires you to thrive and be a better version of yourself? Count your blessings every time you encounter a person capable of making you turn on that ‘switch’ inside you to want to take action ...

And if you are on a sincere quest to move towards the life you know you deserve, and create an environment at home or at work that is positive, productive and energetic, you’ll want to meet Sally May, for sure!

Sally’s personal mission is to educate, inspire and empower everyone to know that Health is ultimately our True Wealth, and it is the only luxury we cannot afford not to have.

Described by clients, associates and friends who know her as passionate, warm, caring and inspirational… Sally is grateful to have found her niche and calling in sharing the message of hope and positivity through her book, and profession as a personal wellness coach, consultant and speaker.

She understands that the journey to genuine health is a holistic and multi-dimensional one; she believes that the body is intelligent, and given the right conditions, it can heal, recover and rejuvenate. Our actions and choices ultimately determine our state of overall health.

Sally holds rare credentials as a CEO-turned-Wellness Coach; and has paid her dues for more than two decades, pounding the corridors of the corporate battlefield.

The demands of modern-day life and careers are not unfamiliar to her… she knows the toll they exert on those who lead them, and witnessed firsthand the huge price many had paid to pursue status and material wealth, or even just to survive.

Your Choices, Your Life

Wonder how many of us really understand, let alone embrace, the ‘One Life to Live’ philosophy. The modern day concept of YOLO, which stands for ‘You Only Live Once’ – adds to the confusion, perhaps leading some people to do crazy things on a dare with a false sense of bravado to prove they are living…

Sally prefers to live by this ideology: “You only die once, but you live everyday”! Really living is not just about the exceptional, odd or weird activities you do occasionally but about the millions of minute and seemingly mundane decisions we make every day with our energy, time and resources.

Who we are right now, is a combination of all the choices we’ve made that changes the genetic blueprint and the early foundation we’ve been given. As a fully-functioning adult now, isn’t it liberating to know that you can make choices every minute, every day that impact your health and happiness in the present and the future?

Sally May shares gems from her book and her deepest thoughts in her blog.

Charity

Giving, sharing and helping others make us happy. Period. What are your favourite ways to give of your ability and fortune?

Spirituality

How would our world be different if we acknowledge the divinity within each of us and that of our neighbour? When we are able to transcend man-made religious borders and our own limited views of ‘my way or the highway’ when it comes to religion, we may experience connectedness and compassion like never before.

Relationships

We are social creatures who need connectedness. Relating genuinely to others reveal so much about ourselves in this world. Who are you close to and do these people really know you?

Family

Do you invest in family or take yours for granted? The power of knowing that there are people who have your back (whether they are connected to you biologically or not) is priceless! Time to be thankful…

Vocation

It’s easy to say ‘do what you love, or love what you do’, right? Think about how much of your life’s energy is spent on what you are doing right now, and on your deathbed, will this be a source of pride or regret?

Eating habits

We are not only what we eat…we are also how we eat? Do you crave for and savour the natural flavours of real food in every bite…?

Food

Food is fuel, and food is medicine. So to then have a rather rude awakening that we exist in a nutrient-deficient world today is not just sad, it’s alarming. Making time to understand our food system and navigating a way through it to get to valuable nutrients is a must!

Gut Health

Did you know we are more ‘bacterial’ than human? Our body houses some 100 trillion micro-organisms with minds of their own! (Not joking…) So key to building great health is to do the right thing by our gut. Sally discusses this in more detail in her book.

Hydration

Ahh…by the time we feel thirst, we are already dehydrated…how much is enough, and what counts as proper hydration and what should we drink. Water by any other name is just as good?

Movement

The human body is designed to move and move often! It is most certainly not prepared for today’s sedentary lifestyles where we are mostly desk and device-bound. Research shows that even exercising for 30 minutes and then sitting for the rest of the day does not help to ensure better health…find out more about how to easily be more active every day in Chapter 7!

Rest

Having sufficient downtime and sleep is key to an energetic and blissful life, not to mention our overall health, yet, more people than ever today suffer from serious fatigue and get into a spiral laced with stimulants to get through their day. Read the solutions to counter this in Sally May’s book…

Stress

Stress is silent killer! And the thing is that it’s self-inflicted! Know that stress is your body’s response to events, situations and people, so the more we realise we can choose how to react, the better we will be at managing stress and giving our adrenals a break.
